I am currently sitting on my couch, sore as shit right now. I would like to say it was from my first week of workouts (YAY) but it is actually from some aggressive dancing to Shout! last night at the Bruce Springsteen concert (and from carrying my breast pump around).
My sister and I had a BLAST at the concert but I am dragging ass today. We went to El Vez, an amazing Mexican restaurant near the WTC for dinner and multiple margaritas before the show and then traveled to Brooklyn for the concert. He didn’t go on till 8:30 and then played for almost 4 hours so we didn’t get home until 2:30 AM (even writing that makes me yawn) and after an hour of sleep, my baby woke me up.
It was a pretty aggressive Monday night (but worth it). Luckily I am still on maternity leave and Mondays aren’t as stressful as they used to be since I basically never know what day it is.
This past week I worked out for the first time since Christopher was born (real workouts, not just squats and lunges in my living room). I ran (twice!) and went to a spin class at my favorite studio for my friend Dawn’s birthday!
My first run was 2.5 miles (untimed, but definitely slow). I felt heavy and my hips were so unbalanced. It was really uncomfortable but it felt nice to get it out of the way. Over the weekend I ran a 5k with a friend and finished in 28:50 (9:17 avg). I was proud of the finish for sure! I still felt uncomfortable but not as bad as my first run. I am hoping each run going forward feels better and better.
Let’s get to the good stuff, a giveaway for a race entry to the Newport 10k in Jersey City, NJ on Saturday, May 14. It will be my second time running this race (and first time partnering with them as a blogger). I ran it in 2013 (in the rain) while I was training for the marathon that never was. It is a flat course that runs through local neighborhoods and along the Hudson River with great views of NYC.
Since I was just cleared to run again, I won’t be “racing” but I will be enjoying the course and the scenery, cheering for others, and dreaming of fast legs for my future self! I have about 2 1/2 weeks to build up some mileage and am hoping for the best.
