Let’s catch up this morning, It’s been a while huh?
The last couple of weeks have been busy, in a good way. I spent the weekend of Memorial Day with family and friends. I also ran the Spring Lake 5, which is by far my most favorite race of all time. I’ve discussed it a few times on the blog but I love it because it is local to where I grew up and all of the residents come out and cheer (and they play Bruce Springsteen on repeat). It is also super flat and if you can get to the front at the start of the race, you have a great chance of running a really fast race (there are 10,000 finishers and no corral system so if you don’t start near the front there is no way to avoid the crowds).
My 5 mile PR (36:43) is from this race in 2013. I know I am not in that kind of shape just yet but I wanted to try my best to come as close as I could to it (mainly because the top 100 females get a coffee mug). I didn’t feel great from the start and continued to feel out of shape until the end. I was happy to see that I ran relatively even splits for 4 of the 5 miles. My official finish time was 37:55 (7:35 avg). I wasn’t terribly far away from top 100 females (I was the 167th) but I didn’t get a mug, boo! But I did get a rose (top 500 females)! It wasn’t my best day but I feel good about my finish time. I placed 719th of over 10,000 runners. Always room for improvement right?
We spent this past weekend in Rhode Island celebrating my college roommate’s wedding! She is one of my absolute best friends and it was so wonderful to be a part of such a special, hilarious, and champagne-filled day.
Let’s move on to training. I know in my last post I discussed possibly purchasing a Runner’s World 5k plan and I decided to go for it! It is an 8-week plan that I will start in two or three weeks with my goal race (which is TBD) being sometime during August. This will be the first time that I train specifically for a 5k so I am looking forward to seeing some results.
That’s about it for now. I will report back when things get more interesting, I promise!
