I hope everyone had a great holiday! I was able to take a day off from work (Friday) and spend some extra time with my family. It was so fun to see Jennie “open” her presents.
This post explains the first picture (which is now a constant and hilarious reminder of my most gullible moment ever).
Now let’s talk about running.
For the last handful of weeks, I have been running 2-3 days each week (1 day easy, 1 day speedwork and 1 day “long”) and doing at least 1 day of strength (sometimes it’s the same day as a run). I also pop into a spin class or get on the bike when I have the time.
It’s been ok, nothing bad and nothing great. My easy and long runs are done anywhere from 9:00-11:00 per mile (slower with the stroller). During speed work I’ve been able to hit some faster paces for shorter distances (6:25-6:30 for 400s), but it hurts.
I’ve been averaging 12-15 miles per week and hope to increase it starting this week by adding longer intervals to my speed work. My long runs are going to hover around 8 miles until half marathon training starts on February 1.
Now let’s talk about my short-term running goals for 2015. I want to PR at the NJ Half in April (current PR is 1:42:42 from Brooklyn Half in May 2013). It is a scary goal considering my relatively low fitness level right now. When I ran that race, I am pretty sure I was in the best shape of my life. I was actually on track to run <1:40 until my stomach decided to act up for the FIRST TIME EVER. I am still upset. Anyway, my point is that I am nowhere near as in shape now but I hope to work very hard to make it happen.
I wanted to enlist some help so I asked my friend Abby to create a training plan for me and one thing quickly led to another and now she is my coach. I’m excited to work with her and get stronger and faster. It’s about time I get my ass moving because I think I am well beyond the stage where I can say “I just had a baby”!
What are your 2015 running goals?
